Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Dental Crowns?

This type of treatment is perfect for realigning your smile. There are several reasons why we would recommend a crown to you. If you have a tooth missing a significant part of its structure, it leaves very little support for a filling to be held in place; it can also become weaker and more prone to break. A dental crown can help protect this and offer more support for the tooth. In addition, the treatment can help support and protect teeth that have been heavily filled or have had root canal treatment. If you require dental implants, dental crowns will be part of your treatment, as they are used to allow the implant to blend naturally with the rest of your teeth.

What materials are used for Dental Crowns?

We offer bespoke selected crowns using the best materials by our team of experts. Material options include metal alloys or ceramic. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Gold crowns are one of the metal alloy options and provide a solid surface which doesn’t chip or break easily. Silver metal alloys require only minor tooth reduction before fitting the crown.

We have a range of ceramic crowns which include Zirconia & Emax Crowns which can be shade matched to your current teeth as well as choosing your desired stain, glaze and translucency. Ceramic crowns tend to be the more popular option as they allow more of a natural blend with the rest of your teeth and are metal free. Our dental experts will discuss the advantages of each option in more detail during your consultation.

How are Dental Crowns fitted?

Dental crowns are custom designed for single teeth to match the other teeth as closely as possible. The colour, size, and shape of your existing will be recorded to ensure that the crown looks natural alongside your remaining teeth. A scan will be carried out, at our private dental clinics in Manchester & London, before the crowns are manufactured to match your teeth perfectly.

Before this scan is completed, your original tooth will be modified using precision filing techniques removing 0.3mm-1mm. As the tooth is modified before your crown is crafted, a temporary crown will be put in place for a short amount of time. These procedures are done very comfortably under local anaesthetic, however, if your require dental sedation, this can be arranged.

How do you care for Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are an excellent option for repairing teeth and creating a beautiful smile as they can last many years. A permanent crown can last on average between 10-20 years, depending on the maintenance of your crown. We find with good oral health and maintenance patients can retain crowns for a lifetime. To maintain your dental crowns, you should follow good oral hygiene practices like visiting us regularly (twice a year) for check-ups and cleaning, brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing at least once daily. Teeth grinding can affect the lifespan of your dental crown. If you suffer from this, your consultant can help offer solutions.

At Bespoke Dental & Implant Clinic, we offer outstanding value for dental crowns, with competitive private dentist fees in Manchester & London and can assist when you require an emergency dentist in Manchester & London. Speak to our team about dental crowns today.

What are Composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are akin to composite bonding; a tooth-coloured resin is placed onto the damaged tooth or teeth. This resin can be applied directly or shaped and custom-made to a specific style in a dental laboratory and fitted in place with adhesive.

Composite Veneers tend to be the most cost-effective option for veneers. However, the resin is weaker than porcelain and may need replacement or repair more often. The average lifespan of composite veneers is around 5 to 7 years.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

The second option available is made from porcelain, a more robust and durable material. During the process of fitting porcelain veneers, an impression of your mouth will be taken; this may involve a small area of the tooth beingreduced so your dentist can see how the shells will sit and how much is needed to be crafted. This part of the process happens before your veneers are made, so you will be provided with temporary veneers between these appointments. In your second appointment, the thin porcelain veneers will be cemented to the front of your teeth and shaped.

Porcelain veneers tend to be stronger, and they can also provide a more natural look for teeth; however, the application process is a little longer. The lifespan of porcelain veneers tends to be between 10 and 15 years, please note this is just a guideline as we have patients with veneers in situ 30 years later.

Emax & Zirconia veneers are very popular and highly recommended, we regard them to be at the higher end of the market giving the best strength and aesthetic result.

How do you look after Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers help improve the appearance of a person’s teeth and last for many years when well maintained. Regular brushing and good oral health will help, as will visiting your dentist often.

Avoiding drinks like coffee and tea will also help the veneers retain their colour, this is more important with composite veneers however with Emax / Zirconia veneers their colour will never change but will need regular polishing.

For a complete smile makeover, you may need to have orthodontic treatment as well as dental veneers. This is something Bespoke Dental can help with.
