Options for Missing Teeth?

There are 3 options in Dentistry to replace missing teeth:

  1. Dentures
  2. Bridges
  3. Dental Implant(s)

About Bridges

A bridge is a fixed, non-removable solution ideal in short spans. They are very useful in scenarios where you have one or two adjacent missing teeth. The Dentist would first need to assess the strength of your current teeth and if appropriate a bespoke bridge can be anchored off them and fixed in permanently.

Advantages

  • Quick and cost-effective way of replacing missing teeth
  • Permanent (Fixed in)
  • Feel natural

Disadvantages

  • Use of adjacent tooth to anchor off
  • If one end of the bridge fails or develops decay it can be difficult to notice
  • When the bridge fails, it often can not be replaced as the adjacent teeth are no longer strong enough.

Types of Bridges

Bridges can be made from many materials including porcelain/zirconia/metallic and are generalised into two categories:

  1. Bonded Bridge – This involves bonding the bridge on to the adjacent tooth using special dental cements.
  2. Conventional Bridge – This procedure is similar to having a crown, the Dental Surgeon would reshape the adjacent tooth/teeth to allow a bespoke bridge to be fitted.

Have you considered Dental Implants?

An alternative to Dental Bridges is Dental Implants. This is a more superior option which requires Dental Surgery. This is the most advance option of replacing missing teeth. Click here to find out more…

How long do Bridges Last?

There is no defined time line and for many people, our selected bridges may last a life time. However, if good oral hygiene standards are maintained and regular inspections, we tend to find they last a lot longer. Our team of experts will be able to comment on the prognosis after the assessment as there are multiple factors involved. As a Rule of thumb Conventional bridges last a lot longer but require reshaping teeth and cost more. Here at the Bespoke Dental & Implant Clinic we are very meticulous in drawing up treatment plans and can support you in making the best decision between our prime services. We want to see you happy, smiling with long lasting results.
